What to include when writing a business plan

It is not difficult to find some ideas as to the structure of a business plan. However the exact structure, format and indeed content is dependent on your own particular circumstances. All business plans should start with an executive summary (even if it should be the last thing that is written), more detailed body copy, financials and Appendices. For some entrepreneurs a business plan is produced in an attempt to secure investment. In these instances the business plan must clearly outline the opportunity, the investment required and the return to the investor. Ultimately a business plan is about convincing the reader that the opportunity described is commercially viable and that it is a worthwhile investment opportunity. Similarly, business plans are often written for other purposes i.e. to agree on a strategy, to secure resources for an internal plan etc. Whatever the purpose the aim is always to persuade the reader that the opportunity described is worthy of pursuit.
